Your visit

What to expect, start to finish

Most patients go from first call to a clear plan in a few simple steps: a screening or visit, a leg ultrasound, a talk with your doctor, then treatment if you need it.

Front desk at a First Coast Cardiovascular Institute office

Step 1: Call and book

Call 904.493.3333, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Ask for a free vein screening* or a visit with a vein specialist. New patients are welcome. Bring your insurance card and a list of your medicines.

If you need to cancel or change, FCCI asks for at least 24 hours notice.

Step 2: Your leg ultrasound

Ultrasound is painless and uses no needles or radiation. A registered vascular technologist moves a small probe over your leg with warm gel.

  • Free vein screening: about 20 minutes
  • Venous insufficiency exam: about 1 hour (may include both legs)
  • Venous duplex for clots: about 30 minutes
  • Vein mapping: about 45 minutes to 1 hour

Wear loose shorts or pants that roll up easily.

Step 3: Your plan

Your doctor reviews your results with you and explains what they mean. You will hear which veins are not working, what treatment fits, and what comes next. FCCI looks at your whole health, not just your veins, so ask anything.

If no vein disease shows up, FCCI's other specialists can help find the real cause.

Step 4: Treatment and after

Most vein treatments at FCCI are outpatient, so you go home the same day. The endovascular laser procedure lasts about an hour. Phlebectomy uses a tiny needle puncture with a quick recovery and no large scars.

Your care team will give you written instructions for the days after, like walking, compression and follow-up visits. Follow those, and call the office during business hours with questions. For sudden chest pain or shortness of breath, call 911.
