How Much Does Vein Treatment Cost in Jacksonville?

Why there is no one price, and the fastest way to get yours.

Doctor with a stethoscope next to the words health insurance

The honest answer is that vein treatment cost depends on three things: which treatment you need, whether it is medical or cosmetic, and how your insurance plan handles deductibles and copays. The fastest way to a real number is to call FCCI at 904.493.3333 with your insurance card in hand.

Why we do not post a price list

A web page price would be a guess, and guesses cause surprise bills. Two people with "varicose veins" can need very different care. One may need a single laser treatment on one leg. Another may need laser on both legs plus phlebectomy for leftover bulging veins. Someone else may have a deep vein problem that needs imaging inside the vein and a stent. Each of those has a different cost and a different coverage story.

So instead of a number, here is how the cost actually comes together, and what you can do to know yours before you commit.

What changes your cost

  • Your treatment. Endovascular laser, phlebectomy, sclerotherapy, venography, venoplasty, stents and IVUS are all different procedures.
  • Medical vs. cosmetic. Aching, swelling, skin changes, ulcers and clots are medical problems. Spider veins treated only for looks are often cosmetic, and plans treat them differently.
  • Your plan. Deductible, copay, coinsurance and whether your plan needs prior approval all play a part.
  • Where it is done. FCCI performs vein care in an outpatient setting, including its own cath lab, instead of a hospital. FCCI says this keeps costs low and visits convenient.

Insurance FCCI accepts

FCCI accepts most major insurance. The list includes Medicare, AARP Medicare Complete, Aetna, Ambetter, AvMed, Blue Cross Blue Shield (except Shands' Gator Care), CarePlus, Cigna Healthcare, Devoted Health, Humana (except Humana Gold Plus HMO and Humana Medicaid), Medicaid of Florida, Medicaid of Georgia, Molina, Simply Medicare & Medicaid, Sunshine Medicaid, Tricare for Life, Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, UMR, United Healthcare, Wellcare and Wellmed PPO & HMO, plus others. Plans change, so always confirm yours by phone.

Start with the free screening

If you are not sure you need treatment at all, FCCI offers a free vein screening that takes about 20 minutes.* A technologist scans your leg with ultrasound to check how your veins work and look for blockages. If your veins look healthy, you have spent nothing. If they do not, you leave with information that helps your doctor and your insurer.

How to get your real number

  1. Call 904.493.3333 and say you want to know your cost for vein care.
  2. Have your insurance card ready, front and back.
  3. After your exam, ask for the exact treatment your doctor recommends.
  4. Ask the team to check your benefits for that treatment before you schedule it.
  5. Ask what your deductible and copay will look like for it.

No insurance?

FCCI has a self-pay fee schedule. Ask about it when you call. Knowing your self-pay cost up front lets you plan without guessing.

Tips to avoid surprise bills

  • Ask whether your plan needs a referral or prior approval.
  • Ask if your treatment is likely to be seen as medical or cosmetic.
  • Keep a note of who you spoke with and when.
  • Ask about each step, from ultrasound to follow-up visits, not only the main procedure.

Why FCCI

Part of how FCCI keeps costs down is where care happens. The practice, serving Northeast Florida since 2002, opened Jacksonville's first freestanding outpatient cardiac and peripheral vascular cath lab in 2007 and added a second in Palatka in 2016. Both carry Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care accreditation. FCCI says the outpatient setting keeps costs low and visits convenient, in line with its mission of enhancing quality of life through cutting-edge care from compassionate experts.
